Remembering Elbert Nostrand Carvel
February 9, 1910-February 6, 2005

The Honorable Elbert N. Carvel, passed away just three days shy of his 95th birthday.  Governor Carvel  spent twelve years in elected public service to the State of Delaware.  He was a skilled politician, a capable and affable man said to have a heart as large as his stature (he stood 6’6” tall).  A businessman by training, he demonstrated a lifelong commitment to public service and philanthropy.  In 1983 Gov. Carvel joined the Board of Directors of the Historical Society, serving as an officer from 1992 until his death.  The state has lost a good representative for its citizenry and a great friend to all.
