The Historical Society of Delaware presents a new exhibition featuring the sculptures of Charles Parks. This exhibit will focus purely on a selection of more than forty of his figurative sculptures of women, girls and other females.

Charles Parks is a living artistic treasure to the people of Delaware. Although a native of Virginia, Parks has lived in Delaware since childhood and has long been claimed by Delawareans as one of their own.  One cannot traverse the state, particularly the city of Wilmington, without encountering one of his thought-provoking sculptures.

Parks’s goal is not to create sculpture for the generations of tomorrow, but to capture the feelings and attention of people today.  He sees his sculptures as three-dimensional symbols that are used to convey a message or an ideal.  For Parks, the human figure is a symbol that everyone can relate to and understand.

In fifty-five years Mr. Parks has sculpted and created more than 500 monuments using such diverse media as plaster, terra cotta, wood, fiberglass, bronze, and welded steel.  His sculpture is included in both public and private collections across the United States and worldwide.  He has earned numerous awards for his work.
