Visit the Delaware Historical Society’s Willingtown Square Gallery to make the acquaintance of Christopher L. Ward (1868-1943), a Wilmingtonian who reinvented himself long before the term became fashionable.  After a successful career as a lawyer and cofounder of the Corporation Service Company, Ward began a new career as an author and civic leader in mid life.  He published popular parodies, novels, and poetry. He also wrote scholarly historical works including The Delaware Continentals and The War of the Revolution.  Ward also promoted Delaware’s unique history as president of the Delaware Historical Society, chair of the Delaware Tercentenary Commission, and vice-president of the Wilmington Society of the Fine Arts (Delaware Art Museum).

We are delighted to introduce a new generation of First Staters to this True-Blue Delawarean.  See Ward’s scrapbooks chronicling his amateur acting career, trace his travels through Wilmington, learn about his writing career, and view mementos from the 1938 Tercentenary celebration.

PLEASE NOTE: EXHIBIT CLOSED - FOR REFERENCE ONLY!
Christopher Ward: A True Blue Delawarean was on display from Winter 2010 through April 8, 2011.
