The Historical Society of Delaware holds the most extensive collection of maps relating to the State of Delaware. From Johannes Jansson's map Nova Anglia, Novvm Belgium et Virginia, 1636 to a N.A.S.A. satellite map of the northern portion of the state and everything in between, researchers are invited to study the collection. Just scroll below to see a listing of the Historical Society of Delaware's collection of Maps dating prior to 1800.
The scope of the collection includes manuscript maps, explorer's maps, property maps, atlases, railroad maps, fire insurance maps and state highway maps. Aerial photographs are included in the Photograph Collections. Each map is listed in the card catalogue which provides date, title, subject, and author. Look for additions to this page in the future. Special requests or questions about the collection, or about how to make a donation should be directed to the Curator of Maps and Photographs at photos@hsd.org . Reproductions from the map collection are available upon request provided the map is in sturdy condition and is not under copyright restrictions. Permission to publish an item must be obtained from the Executive Director prior to publication or display. For aerial photos of portions of Delaware for the year 1926, please visit the University of Delaware's SPATLAB site at: bluehen.ags.udel.edu |
