Child Labor Photographs
May, 1910
Photographs by Lewis Hine, Courtesy of the National Archives

Lewis W. Hine (1874-1940) was commissioned by the National Child Labor
Committee to travel the United States taking photographs of child labor.  The
committee hoped that his powerful images would provide the necessary
argument to end dangerous and unhealthy child labor practices in America.
In Delaware, Hine documented both urban and rural child labor.  Many of his
photographs included a brief description of the children and their working
conditions.  This one is labeled only, "Two newsgirls."
