Wilmington's first electric trolley
10th and Market Streets, 1888
HSD Collection

Unidentified gentlemen pose on the car.  A newspaperman described its trial run:
"Last night the car was successfully run by electricity...what new and higher
forces may yet be caught and harnessed...we can no more conjecture than could
the Wilmingtonian of three-score years ago have forseen that...to-day (we) would
hitch the lightning to carriage and use the same force to carry on conversation
over distance."  The Ebbitt House (background) became the YMCA and was later
torn down for the DuPont Company building.
