The Historical Society of Delaware has recently acquired a significant group of ceramics by William Hare (1814-1885), the only Wilmington potter known to have signed his work.  We've been collecting Hare pots for more than half a century, and the new acquisition adds a number of colorful examples to our holdings of salt-glazed stonewares.  Pictured above are a cake pot with a cobalt blue leaf-and tendril design and a fruit jar with Rockingham-inspired manganese decoration over a creamy yellow slip.  Both date ca. 1850-75.  If you know the location of other Hare pots, please contact dirmuseum@hds.org
