Created by the Delaware Historical Society, New Castle Garden Festivus
is growing intoa community-wide celebration of gardens and green space
of New Castle, the bounty they create, and the unique personality of one
of Delaware's oldest and historic towns!
In the spirit of of the original Festivus (created in the 1960s' but popularized
in the 1990s TV sitcom, Seinfeld), the New Castle Garden Festivus will feature
an unusual and diverse collection of family-oriented activities (highlighted above)
that showcase many of New Castle's greatest charms.

For cooking enthusiasts and friends, the Great Pear Cook-Off will be held
on the grounds of the Read House & Gardens, 42 The Strand. The Cook-Off was
Originally started as a celebration of the proliferation of pears produced each year
by the 150+ year old tree in the
Read House Garden. Click here for details on the
pear recipe competition!
