Redware, stoneware, pearlware, and
porcelain-- all found a proper place, use, and meaning in homes large and
small during the seventeenth through twentieth centuries. From March
4 through October 30 the Read House & Gardens will
focus on the ways different types of ceramics were utilized in homes on
the property. Archaeological remnants - some virtually complete
vessels -- of seventeenth and eighteenth century ceramics used in homes
claimed by the Fire of 1824 will be on display. To complement the
exhibit, period room arrangements will highlight the use and placement of
the same types of ceramics in the Read House in the nineteenth and
twentieth centuries.
