45-90 minutes in length.
Depending on availability, a single program can be offered in three

Ahoy Matey! Jolly Rogers in Delaware
(Grades K-4)
Teachers, would you like your
students to learn the history behind one of the most popular movie
subjects today? Book this program and your students will learn about
pirates who visited Delaware in the 1600s and 1700s and find out how
they really lived. They’ll be learning history, practicing their math skills
and, using their imaginations in our pirate activities!

In Search of
Freedom: Delaware and the Underground Railroad
(Grades 3-6)
What was it like to seek freedom
on the Underground Railroad? Students explore this question as they
learn about freedom seekers and the brave men and women, both
enslaved and free, who made this region one of the most successful
routes to freedom in the years before the Civil War. The challenges
faced by those involved in the Underground railroad are reinforced
through primary source analysis.

Civil War Boot Camp:
A Day in the Life of a Civil War Soldier
Special Price! $2.50 student (Grades 3-6)
Delaware's citizens and soldiers
found themselves at a crossroads at the outbreak of the Civil War.
Delaware chose to remain in the Union, but continued to allow
slavery. This activity-based program challenges
students to understand that soldiers and civilians made tough
decisions to change or preserve their country and state during the
Civil War. (Grades 4th-6th)

Childhood in the Early 1900s
(Grades K-3)
Students compare and contrast their lives today to
those of Elizabeth Jones and Louis Redding, two children who lived
in Delaware at the turn of the century.

History Tools: Learning from Primary
Sources, Images & Artifacts
(Grades 4-6)
Be a historian! Students inspect one
hundred year old photographs, handle genuine household artifacts,
and browse an early mail-order catalogue to draw conclusions about
home life and childhood in 1900. This program teaches engaging
methods for "doing" history.
