Margaret White Houston, 1864-1937
In 1897, Margaret White Houston, representing the Equal Suffrage Club of Sussex County, spoke eloquently to the Delaware Constitutional Convention in favor of including woman's suffrage in the new document.  Her words, and those of other Delaware suffragists, fell on deaf ears.  Women did not get the vote at that time.

A lifelong Sussex Countain, Margaret White married Robert G. Houston in 1888.  The family lived in Georgetown.  In addition to suffrage, Mrs. Houston was also involved in Prohibition and in women's clubs.  She helped found the Georgetown New Century Club and was a president of the Delaware State Federation of Women's Clubs.
