Experience 100 years of Christmas celebrations in a nostalgic, festive holiday exhibit at the Delaware History Center in Wilmington. Visitors can experience a century of Christmases past in four period room settings that span 1860 to 1960.   Each "room" features a collection of model trains, a Christmas tree, toys, dolls, and dollhouses appropriate to the period, along with furniture, decor, and clothing fashions.  The resulting experience is the essence of forgotten childhood holiday celebrations.  house.jpg (17226 bytes)

In the Victorian Parlor, more than 32 dolls mix with parlor furniture, Victorian clothing, and decor, and an exquisite 6 foot by 6 foot dollhouse from the 1864 Great Sanitary Fair, and a handful of 19th century trains and a Victorian Christmas tree.

The Edwardian Library features a small-scale dollhouse and a nostalgic music box from the 1890s.  More than 17 vintage dolls surround a festive holiday tree decorated with colorful vintage ornaments.

The New Deal Dining Room is a special treat with two large-scale train sets and one racecar set from the 1930s.  A toy airplane and Spanish Revival dollhouse are also on display,  along with eight dolls from the 1930s, a Christmas tree and furniture of the period.

A "mod' silver foil tree is the highlight of the 1960s TV Room , as is Barbie's Dream Car and an extensive H.O. scale train set.  Other toys and a 1960s dollhouse compliment the distinctive style of the 1960s furniture and fashions on display.

Along side the period room displays are an authentic 1890s sleigh filled with a variety of dolls and toys, and a large, Colonial dollhouse modeled after a home in historic New Castle, Del.
